Civil Aviation Minister Sameh el-Hefny affirmed that the ministry is pressing ahead with its strategy for digital transformation and the modernisation of operational systems across Egyptian airports, with the aim of achieving the highest levels of operational efficiency and enhancing passenger services in line with international standards, thereby boosting the competitiveness of Egypt’s aviation sector.

El-Hefny said the next phase will witness an expanded rollout of advanced digital solutions, alongside greater utilisation of artificial intelligence and data analytics technologies to support decision-making and improve operational performance, while ensuring full compliance with cybersecurity standards and data governance frameworks.

The minister noted that co-operation with leading global specialised companies represents a key pillar of the ministry’s strategy to develop the aviation sector, keep pace with the rapid evolution of the air transport industry, and enhance the sustainability of operations.

His remarks came during a meeting on Friday with a delegation from SITA, headed by Selim Bouri, President for the Middle East, Africa and Türkiye at the company, one of the world’s leading providers of information technology and communications solutions for the air transport industry.

Discussions focused on ways to upgrade airport operational systems and expand the adoption of advanced digital technologies. The SITA delegation reviewed the latest global trends shaping the future of travel and airport operations technology amid the worldwide shift toward smart operations driven by digital integration and artificial intelligence applications.

The talks also covered a range of advanced technological solutions, including smart operational systems, real-time data exchange, biometric identity and contactless travel technologies, in addition to artificial intelligence applications, predictive analytics, and integrated airport management systems (TAM).

For his part, Bouri praised the significant progress achieved by Egypt’s civil aviation sector in recent years, particularly the serious steps taken by Egyptian airports toward modernising their operational and digital infrastructure. He reaffirmed SITA’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and providing innovative solutions that support the ministry’s digital transformation plans.
