Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates is monitoring the situation of Egyptian sailors aboard the M/N Noran, which came under fire near a port in southwestern Russia on September 13.
Minister Badr Abdelatty instructed Egypt’s embassy in Moscow to follow up on the incident and provide all necessary consular support and assistance to the Egyptian sailors on board, the ministry said.
The embassy helped facilitate the return to Egypt of eight Egyptian sailors who had been aboard the vessel, the ministry said.
Abdelatty also instructed the ministry’s consular department to remain in contact with the family of the Egyptian captain, whose death aboard the ship had been confirmed.
The ministry said the family was being informed of efforts by the Egyptian embassy in Moscow to recover the captain’s body and bring it back to Egypt once conditions stabilise in the area where the vessel is located, which is experiencing military operations.
