The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates said on Thursday that it is makingintensive efforts and contacts to secure the swift release of Egyptian sailors detained aboard a vessel off the Somali coast, ensure their safety and provide suitable living conditions until the crisis is resolved and they return home.
The ministry said Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty is personally following developments and has directed sustained action on all tracks to guarantee the sailors’ safety and expedite their release. Intensive contacts are underway with Somali and Yemeni authorities to monitor the situation and press for a resolution, as well as to check on the sailors’ conditions and ensure their basic needs are met.
The ministry is also engaging with the ship’s owning company to urge it to fulfil its responsibilities under international law and secure the release of the Egyptian crew. Regular contacts continue with the sailors’ families to keep them updated on developments and the ongoing efforts.
