Egypt and Eritrea confirmed their mutual desire to keep working to advance their co-operation in all fields in the coming period.

During a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Cairo, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and visiting Eritrean President, Isaias Afwerki, vowed to make efforts to enhance their two countries’ cooperation in the economic, trade and security fields.

The two leaders also discussed means of bolstering their countries’ trade exchange and enhancing the flow of investments.

They said they would do this by supporting Egyptian private sector investments in the Eritrean market, especially where Egyptian companies have a competitive edge and accumulated experience.

Discussions between President Sisi and President Afwerki covered a wide range of issues, including security developments in the region.

They called for de-escalation and the containment of regional tensions.

The two leaders also underscored the importance of reaching a cessation of fire in the Gaza Strip to pave the way for a sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of the war-torn Palestinian territory.

President Sisi and President Afwerki also called for launching a path that leads to the fulfilment of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international terms of reference.

The two leaders also discussed latest developments in the Horn of Africa.

They called for respecting the sovereignty of Somalia and supporting it in standing against moves that undermine this sovereignty.

Discussions between the two leaders also covered the situation in Sudan.

They cited the importance of maintaining their co-operation in their bid to find serious solutions to the crisis, ones that put an end to hostilities and terminate the human suffering of the people of Sudan.
