The Arab Republic of Egypt strongly condemned the storming of the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, describing the incident as a serious violation of the sanctity of religious sites and a dangerous escalation in Jerusalem.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, Egypt warned that the continued recurrence of such provocative actions risks further aggravating tensions, undermining efforts to restore calm, and imposing a new reality at Al-Aqsa Mosque that could have far-reaching consequences for regional security.

Cairo reaffirmed the imperative of preserving the historical and legal status quo governing Al-Aqsa Mosque as an exclusively Muslim place of worship. Furthermore, it reiterated its unequivocal rejection of any attempts to alter this status through the proposed temporal or spatial division of the site or measures that undermine the Hashemite custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Egypt stressed that unilateral actions seeking to alter the character, identity, or status of occupied East Jerusalem constitute a grave challenge to international law and established governing arrangements.

Consequently, Egypt called on the international community to assume its responsibilities by firmly addressing such violations, preventing further escalation, and taking effective measures to preserve the status quo. Finally, Cairo urged all concerned parties to refrain from provocative actions, support calm, safeguard religious freedoms, and uphold the sanctity of Jerusalem’s holy sites.
