The Arab Republic of Egypt has strongly condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by hundreds of Israeli settlers, accompanied by provocative acts and the performance of religious rituals inside its courtyards, in violation of the established historical and legal status quo governing the holy site.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Thursday, Egypt warns of the serious consequences of the continued and escalating incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, particularly as they take place against the backdrop of ongoing settlement activities and provocative statements, as well as attempts to alter the existing status quo and impose a new reality within the mosque compound, known as Al-Haram Al-Sharif.
It also reaffirms the imperative of preserving the historical and legal status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem and safeguarding the religious sanctity of the mosque, the ministry said in a statement, stressing that respecting the established arrangements governing the holy sites constitutes a fundamental pillar for preventing further escalation and maintaining security and stability.
Egypt further warns that the recurrence of such violations, particularly when carried out within a broader pattern of actions that appear to take place in the absence of effective deterrence or accountability, risks further exacerbating tensions and instability in the occupied Palestinian territories and across the wider region.
Accordingly, Egypt calls for full respect for the established historical and legal status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem and for an end to all actions that could undermine their sanctity or alter their existing arrangements.
It underscores the need for responsible action to prevent further escalation and preserve the prospects for regional security and stability.
