Damietta Port handled 21 ships and recorded 5,447 truck movements in and out of the facility on Thursday, according to an infographic released by Egypt’s Cabinet media centre.
The port continued operating around the clock, with cargo loading, unloading, storage and internal transport proceeding normally, the centre said, describing operations as efficient and uninterrupted.
General cargo exports totaled 23,704 tonnes, including beet pulp and gypsum, while imports reached 25,545 tonnes, including timber and iron.
Container exports stood at 194 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), compared with 1,029 TEUs of imports and 1,614 TEUs of transit containers.
Wheat stocks at the port’s public-sector grain silo amounted to 98,120 tonnes, while private-sector warehouses held 45,993 tonnes, according to the data.
Damietta is one of Egypt’s key commercial ports and a major hub in the country’s maritime transport and logistics network. The government is developing and expanding its berths and terminals, upgrading infrastructure and modernising operations as part of efforts to turn Egypt into a regional centre for transport, logistics and transit trade.
