By Mohamed Attia
Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny participated in the “ICAO Security Week 2024 and the High-Level Ministerial Meeting”, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

On the margins of the event, the minister held bilateral meetings with Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Oman Naif bin Ali Al Abri and President of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) Abdulaziz Al-Duailej to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in the civil aviation industry, read a press release by the Civil Aviation Ministry.

The meetings also tackled a raft of important issues related to enhancing civil aviation safety and security, exchanging relevant expertise, and seizing air transportation investment opportunities to serve the interests of the Arab peoples.

The event is taking place between December 9 and 12 at Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, with the participation of over 600 officials, specialists and experts from various ICAO member states.

The Egyptian delegation, led by Hefny, toured the specialized exhibition organized as part of the ICAO Aviation Security Week, which highlights new technologies and innovative security solutions, with the participation of local and international institutions.

The delegation included Head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority Amr El-Sharkawy, Head of the Aviation Security Central Administration Yasser Abdel Halim, and Director of the Aviation Security Department Ahmed Kamal Sobieh.

The event, being held for the first time outside the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal, aims to address critical issues affecting global aviation security, recommend initiatives aimed at addressing challenges to international aviation security, and reiterate the importance of a joint approach among Member States to comprehensively support joint efforts related to counter-terrorism issues, including the protection of critical civil aviation infrastructure, enhancing global aviation security and facilities and ensuring the safety of passengers and crew personnel.
