Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy and a delegation from Heka Data and a US consortium of data centre developers have explored plans for establishing an integrated zone for hyperscale data centres and artificial intelligence in Egypt.
The meeting, chaired by Heka Data Chairman Ahmed Hefni, reviewed Egypt’s competitive advantages as a regional hub for cloud computing and digital services.
Discussions focused on leveraging Egypt’s strategic location, advanced fibreoptic infrastructure, international submarine cables, and growing pool of ICT talent.
During the meeting, Minister Hendy stressed Egypt’s openness to international partnerships to strengthen its position as a regional centre for data centres, welcoming investments that transfer and localise advanced technologies.
He noted that the rapid growth of AI requires robust digital infrastructure, and Egypt is working to build a comprehensive ecosystem capable of hosting and processing data for regional and global markets.
The Heka Data delegation outlined its vision for the project, highlighting Egypt’s promising market and expressing readiness to advance studies and procedures. Talks covered the project’s scale, phases, investment opportunities, job creation, and its role in expanding cloud, AI and digital services.
They also addressed the need to align digital infrastructure with energy sources to ensure efficiency and continuity, given rising global demand for data centre services.
