Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position on the need to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of Syria, and to support the institutions of the Syrian national state in a manner that ensures the full restoration of its sovereignty over its territory.

Abdelatty’s remarks came at a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Asaad al-Shaibani on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Abdelatty stated that a political process involving all components of the Syrian people is a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable stability.

He also highlighted the importance of continuing efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, stressing that Egypt considers the recovery of Syria and its return to its natural role within its Arab and regional environment as a key objective that reinforces Arab national security.

Furthermore, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s unequivocal rejection of Israel’s repeated violations of Syrian sovereignty, warning against the dangers of attempts to exploit the current situation to justify foreign interferences.

He affirmed that Egypt, through its regional and international contacts, continues to stress the importance of respecting Syria’s unity and full sovereignty and rejects any attempts to undermine its security.
