Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Hassan Abdallah reaffirmed on Thursday Egypt’s commitment to consolidating economic co-operation with African countries, and advancing continental integration, underscoring the country’s support for initiatives that promote sustainable development and boost intra-African trade.

Abdalla also lauded the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) for its key role in financing development projects and enhancing trade and economic integration across the continent.

Egypt remains committed to supporting the bank’s programmes and initiatives as part of its broader vision for stronger African economic co-operation, he stressed.

The CBE chief held a meeting at the CBE’s headquarters with Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aati, and Afreximbank President George Elombi.

The discussions focused on enhancing co-operation in trade, investment and finance, as well as expanding opportunities for economic collaboration across Africa, a CBE statement said.

The meeting highlighted the importance of continued coordination between the CBE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Afreximbank to facilitate the expansion of Egyptian companies in African markets, improve access to financing, and encourage greater private sector participation in infrastructure and development projects across the continent.

For his part, chief diplomat Abdel-Aati described the partnership between Egypt and Afreximbank as a successful model of African co-operation, highlighting the bank’s contribution to financing development, trade and investment projects.

He added that Egypt’s hosting of the Africa Business Forum reflects the country’s continued commitment to supporting Africa’s economic integration agenda and expanding opportunities for intra-African trade and investment.

The meeting also featured discussions on promising investment opportunities across the continent and ways to strengthen financing and investment guarantee mechanisms to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian companies and support shared economic development goals throughout Africa.
