Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) expected on Monday Egypt’s population to hit 160 million by 2050.
In a report titled “How the world will seem in 2050”?, the cabinet said that Egypt ranked 13th in 2020 in terms of the world’s population, pointing out that the population increase represents a challenge.
It expected the world population in 2050 to reach 9.74 billion after it doubled since the 1950s.
It shed light on Egypt’s launch of the national strategy for climate change in 2050 whose costs amounted to 1 billion dollars to support Egypt’s economy.
Last month, the United Nations said the world’s population is projected to reach 8 billion people this year – more than three times larger than it was in 1950. Based on current trends, the UN estimates the population could grow to about 8.5 billion by 2030, 9.7 billion by 2050 and 10.4 billion by the end of the century.
