Almost 1.2 million students at first year preparatory stage have been checked for hepatitis C since last Wednesday, an official statement said on Thursday.

The check-ups come within the ‘100 Million Healthy Lives’ initiative, launched on December 14, the statement by the Ministry of Health and Population added.

The aims of the initiative are to eredicate hepatitis C and detect non-communicable diseases as per directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to have five-year check-ups carried out in school students.

The initiative targets 2.5 million students in first preparatory, Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.
