CAIRO – The 111th session of the Arab Economic and Social Ministerial Council kicked off Thursday under the chairmanship of Mauritanian Finance Minister Islamo Ould Mohamed Ambadi.

Arab League (AL) Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Social Sector Haifa Abu Ghazaleh and Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs Ali al-MalkIi are taking part in the session.

An array of Arab economic and social files is expected to figure high on the gathering’s agenda, including a Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), as well as the latest developments pertaining to the Arab Customs Union.

Senior Arab trade, industry, finance and economy higherups are also partaking in the event, alongside representatives of specialized Arab organizations.

A key Arab coordinating mechanism for an Arab Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy will be discussed during the meeting.

The gathering also reviews preparations for the fifth Arab development summit due to be held in Mauritania in 2023.

Talks will also tackle investments in Arab countries, alongside Arab food security challenges, in addition to files covering industry social protection and emigration in Arab countries.
