YERVEN – Visiting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi hailed on Sunday the advanced level of the Egyptian-Armenian ties in various domains.
He expressed appreciation for the Armenian president’s participation in the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) which Egypt hosted in November 2022.
He said Egypt is looking forward to enhancing bilateral ties, especially at the economic and trade levels, highlighting the key role of institutional mechanisms in this domain as represented in the joint cooperation committee and the businessmen forum.
This came during President Sisi’s meeting with his Armenian counterpart Vahagn Khachaturyan.
An official reception was held for Sisi and the national anthem was played.
Sisi hailed Armenia’s hospitality as well as the deeply-rooted historical Egyptian-Armenian friendship, especially in light of Egypt’s hosting of a large Armenian community who contributes to bolstering bilateral ties at the political, economic, cultural and artistic level.
He highlighted the role of the Armenian community in enriching the Egyptian community.
Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said Sisi held a closed session of talks with his Armenian counterpart followed by a plenary session attended by delegations of both countries.
Meanwhile, President Khachaturyan termed as historic President Sisi’s visit to his country, saying friendship between the two countries is deeply-rooted.
He lauded the Egyptian economic reform measures and the major national projects being carried out by Egypt, stressing his country’s keenness on backing Egypt’s development efforts.
The spokesman said the talks tackled a host of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The Armenian president lauded the pivotal role played by Egypt to promote stability in the Middle East and Africa, especially within the framework of confronting illegal immigration, promoting peaceful solutions of crises and achieving coexistence among religions.
Sisi and his Armenian counterpart witnessed the inking of several agreements and memorandums of understanding, the spokesman said.
