Japan’s Ambassador to Egypt Oka Hiroshi and Alexandria Business Association (ABA) chairman Mohamed Hanno attended the opening of the Project for Supporting Industrial Training in Gheit el-Enab.

Governor of Alexandria Mohamed Taher el-Sherif and Dr Arabi Abuzeid, who is Under Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, Alexandria Directorate were also present at the opening.

This project was executed by ABA, using Japan’s grassroot grants of $75,246 million.

This is the fourth collaboration between the Embassy of Japan and ABA, following the supply of school furniture in Alexandria in 2000, 2002 and 2007.

The project supports local industrial development and train 240 young people in welding and fabrication, and garment making.

The training programme incorporates KAIZEN, the Japanese business philosophy, which embodies the following principles: know the customer, let it flow, observe and listen on the shop floor, empower people and be transparent.

During the ceremony, Hanno and other speakers expressed their sincere appreciation of Japan’s assistance to support local industrial development in Alexandria.

This project comes within the framework of the Japanese aid grant programme Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, which provides direct financial support to non-profit organisations including NGOs in education, health, inclusion of persons with disabilities, vocational training, women’s empowerment and the environment.

Japan has been supporting 174 projects in Egypt since 1994.
