Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri on Monday commended the role of representatives of civil society organizations in encouraging delegations of all parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to raise the ceiling of their ambitions regarding international climate action in its various aspects.

The foreign minister’s remarks came as he chaired on Monday a special briefing session for the conference’s plenary session, during which the progress of the negotiating process on the various topics on the agenda of the COP27 conference from the beginning of the negotiations until today was reviewed.

During the session, Shoukri expressed appreciation to all delegations for their efforts to reach the desired unanimity on various agenda topics of the conference.

Shoukri reviewed the Egyptian presidency’s vision for the climate negotiations in the coming days, in light of its consultations with various parties and groups, explaining the importance of strengthening technical negotiations through political consensus and the Egyptian presidency’s continuation of holding consultations with all parties.

The foreign minister stressed keenness to follow up on the progress of the negotiating process in the coming days, adding that the door of the Egyptian presidency of the conference is open to all delegations in order to achieve the common goal of all parties represented in the Sharm el-Sheikh conference.
