The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attaches great importance to confronting the adverse impacts of climate change, affirmed Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades.

Cyprus is committed to joining hands with all countries in confronting the climate change crisis, he added during the Heads of State Summit for the launch of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME) Climate Change Initiative (EMME-CCI) on Tuesday.

The Cypriot president extended deep gratitude to President Sisi for his interest in COP27 UN Climate Change Conference.

Egypt’s hosting of the climate conference reflects its keenness on the climate change issue and its repercussions, he added.

The climate change affects every country around the world, he said, underling the need of exerting more efforts to put an end to reduce the risk of fires in forests, as well as to address the causes of drought and floods.

In 2017, there were urgent calls to adopt serious steps at the international and national level to confront the adverse impacts of climate change, said Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades.

Accordingly, thousands of scientists responded to such calls and conducted numerous studies and researches in this respect, he added.

The researches tackled issues related to health, food, agriculture, immigration, energy, tourism, and issues of mutual interest, he further said.

Tremendous efforts have been exerted to confront such disasters, he added.

Cyprus is keen on taking all the necessary measures to confront climate change, he affirmed.

Anastasiades stressed the need to exert utmost effort to outline a tangible and an applicable plan with realistic results to ensure all desired benefits are achieved.

Addressing the Heads of State Summit for the launch of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME) Climate Change Initiative (EMME-CCI), Anastasiades pressed for commitment to implementing the plan of action.

He expected world countries to succeed in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and global warming.

Unfortunately, there are big challenges that entail mandatory measures to which all states and parties, as well as industrial countries, must abide, the Cypriot president said.

The second move would be to secure finances needed to counter repercussions of climate change, Anastasiades noted.
