Cairo’s renovated Sphinx International Airport (SPX) will receive its first flight in November after the extension of its expansion project to increase its annual capacity to 1.2 million passengers.
Air Cairo, which is one of the companies affiliated with the Civil Aviation Ministry, will organize the first flight from Sharm El Sheikh International Airport to SPX.
It is scheduled that the company will operate 12 domestic flights monthly between SPX and the airports of Sharm El Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan.
The operation of the flights from SPX comes within the framework of the Civil Aviation Ministry’s plan to boost and revitalize incoming air and tourist traffic to Egypt, said Minister Mohamed Abbas.
The SPX will also serve tourists coming to visit the Great Pyramids of Giza and the soon-to-be-inaugurated Grand Egyptian Museum, he added.
The airport’s size was increased to 24,000 square metres and has a capacity of 900 passengers per hour.
