There is a great deal of room for the African Union and Africa to rise up and right the wrongs of the past. This statement by President of the Afro-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organisation Helmy Hadidy came during his speech during the closing session of a visit by participants in the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership Second Cohort during their visit to the Egypt’s parliament.

Second Cohort during their visit to parliament. This came as part of the activities of the third Day of the Fellowship Programme.
Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ahmed Saad ElDin, and Secretary General of the House of Representatives Ahmed Al-Manai attended the seminar, which he highlighted the many initiatives aimed at strengthening South-South Co-operation. They also
briefed them on Egypt’s remarkable experience in youth empowerment.
The second day of Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership Second Cohort concluded with a discussion ‘The Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organization…History of a Joint Struggle’.

During his speech at the closing session, Hadidy expounded on the reasons for the establishment of the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organisation, its history and its field of work. He explained that the organisation was initially formed as a result of a mass movement that emerged in non-aligned countries. He noted that the organisation’s role and efforts had been expanded over time and that it had developed to cover more fields
of work in response to international changes. However, he stressed the fact that the organisation’s principles would always remain the same and would never change.
El-Hadidy went on to say that Africa had been frequently subjected to injustice, causing many of its problems, including poverty and disease. He added that he believed there was an awakening and a breakthrough happening in Africa, noting that there are countries with a solid economy, and others with good education, and still others with proper healthcare.
El-Hadidy said he was convinced that there is a great deal of room for the African Union and Africa to rise up and right the wrongs of the past, mentioning Egypt’s great support to the Afro-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organisation over the years. He affirmed that Egypt’s former presidents as well as its current president support the organisation and encourage it to play its mandated role. The stronger the relationship between Egypt and the
organisation, the greater its development, performance and positive outcomes.
