EL ALAMIEN, Egypt – Egyptian Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister and Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed a report on measures to combat the spread of monkeypox in Egypt, along with the situation of the coronavirus in the country, as well as vaccination against the pandemic.

In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli Thursday, the minister also reviewed the global epidemiological situation of the monkeypox and the Egyptian government’s measures in case any infection has been reported.

Currently there are 19,188 confirmed cases of monkeypox around the world, in 76 countries, the minister said, adding that 25 monkeypox cases were reported in the Middle East.

Egypt has no infected or suspected cases of monkeypox so far, he said.

Meantime the minister noted that 177 new Covid-19 infections were reported in Egypt during the period between July 19 and July 25.

He also reviewed the health ministry’s precautionary measures and hospitals’ preparedness in this regard.
