Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy met with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar in Cairo for talks on the Palestinian territories, regional crises and relations between Slovenia and Arab states.
Fahmy welcomed Slovenia’s support for Palestinian statehood and a two-state solution, as well as its opposition to forced displacement and Israeli settlement expansion.
He called for the Gaza ceasefire to be upheld, humanitarian aid deliveries to continue and efforts to end the Israeli occupation to be stepped up.
He also urged the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with east Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The talks covered regional crises and ways to expand Arab-European co-operation. Fahmy called for political and diplomatic solutions, respect for national sovereignty and efforts to prevent further escalation.
