CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of International Co-operation Rania al-Mashat has stressed the importance of the strategic co-operation with the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).
During a meeting Wednesday with JICA deputy chief Yamanaka Shinichi, the minister said the current stage is witnessing more cooperation between the two sides in priority areas, including in applying the Egyptian inclusive health insurance system and implementing the second phase of the fourth underground metro line project.
The meeting took up cooperation with JICA to achieve sustainable development.
Mashat expressed hope for increasing Japanese investments in Egypt to support national development efforts.
She pointed out to the launch of a program which aims at financing green government projects to mitigate the effects of climate change.
The two sides discussed preparations for holding the policies dialogue between the International Cooperation Ministry and the Japanese side in August in the presence of the Japanese ambassador in Cairo and JICA officials.
For his part, Yamanaka said his agency supports many development projects in Egypt especially in the fields of infrastructure, energy and investments in the health sector.
He said the economic co-operation portfolio between the two countries recorded 2.8 billion dollars covering 14 projects in the fields of health, electricity, transport, navigation, education and higher education, among others.
