CAIRO – Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Mait and his Qatari counterpart Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari affirmed the importance of boosting bilateral cooperation in face of the current global economic crisis whose hard consequences have cast their shadow on all countries.

This came during their meeting on the sidelines of the 2022 Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group in Sharm El-Sheikh, which run on 1-4 June and are held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi under the theme “Beyond Recovery: Resilience and Sustainability”.

According to a statement by the Finance Ministry, the two sides reviewed the global economic scene and the violent shocks that are caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the fallout from the war in Europe which are putting strong pressures and cruelly distressing all world economies amid the disruption they have caused to supply chains and the soaring price of essential commodities which unleashed an unprecedented growth in inflation rates in a way that the world has never seen its like before in over 40 years.

The ministers discussed means to develop bilateral coordination, foster consultations over monetary policies and mechanisms of reaching a bilateral agreement to avoid double taxation and encourage joint investments.

Maiit asserted Egypt’s keenness on promoting bilateral relations while focusing on development and technological sectors to make the optimal use of all chances of cooperation.
