Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Atti said co-operation between Egypt and African countries is key to the Egyptian foreign policy, given the fact that Egypt has human potentials and various technical and institutional expertise in water resources.
Abdel Atti’s remarks came during attending a meeting of the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), currently in session as part of activities of the 9th World Water Forum, to mark the 20th anniversary of the council’s founding and the launch of the water support programme in Africa.
He said co-operation with African countries is benefiting their people through the fulfillment of several development projects, in order to achieve sustainable development and raise living standards of citizens.
Ventures in Africa contribute to overcoming challenges in the continent, including overpopulation, poverty, illiteracy and diseases, according to him.
Abdel Atti said the upcoming fifth Cairo Water Week, to convene under the rubric ” Water in the Heart of Climate Action” and COP27 conference Egypt will host, in November are golden chances for reviewing challenges besetting the African continent in water sphere.
The minister underscored the importance of riding out all water-related problems and further promoting international action on this score, especially in African countries.
