Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom met a World Bank (WB) delegation on Wednesday to discuss ways to strengthen co-operation between Egypt and the international financial institution.

Rostom reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to deepening the partnership with the World Bank, describing it as a key pillar of the country’s economic and structural reform efforts.

The meeting discussed future co-operation in the economic and environmental fields, in line with Egypt’s sustainable development plans.

Rostom said the partnership was moving towards a more integrated approach, balancing fiscal discipline with investment in human development and the creation of more opportunities for private-sector-led job growth.

The WB delegation presented proposed projects in environmental protection and institutional development.

Discussions focused on two key areas of environmental co-operation. The first aims to reduce air pollution in Greater Cairo through better solid waste management and efforts to curb the burning of agricultural waste. The second focuses on supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy and cutting emissions.

The two sides also discussed ways to mobilise international financing to support private-sector investment in green development.

On the blue economy and water resources, the WB delegation highlighted the strategic importance of developing the sector in Egypt and expressed readiness to provide technical support and expertise.

Rostom also highlighted ongoing co-operation to modernise Egypt’s statistical and economic systems, stressing the importance of improving the accuracy of indicators and updating national databases to support effective economic and development policymaking.
