CAIRO – President of Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsi asserted that the process achieved in the women file is backed by a strong political will to empower and protect women.
Morsi’s remarks were made during her meeting with UN Secretary General’s Undersecretary and Executive Director of UN Women Sima Sami Bahous on the fringe of the 66th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, currently convening in New York.
The meeting took up the cooperation between Egypt and UN Women.
In a statement released on Sunday, Morsi appreciated the fruitful cooperation and partnership between NCW and the UN Women over the past years with the aim of empowering women in various fields as well as carrying out various activities and projects through the NCW.
The UN official, for her part, praised the strong Egyptian efforts to empower women under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, terming them as “unprecedented”. She also welcomed the enhancement of such cooperation between Egypt and the UN at all levels.
She asserted that Egypt is one of the key countries in the Arab region, highlighting the importance of Egypt’s hosting the UN Climate Change Conference for 2022 (COP27).
