CAIRO – Chairperson of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsi on Saturday held a virtual meeting with a number of ambassadors of the African Union (AU).
The council said in a statement that the meeting was held on the sidelines of the participation of Morsi and her accompanying delegation in the 66th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66) in New York.
Morsi highlighted Egypt’s great efforts to put an end to female mutilation and early marriage through enacting laws and regulations or launching awareness campaigns.
She also praised Egypt’s efforts on meeting the needs of women during the outbreak of Covid-19.
She underlined the importance of joining hands to change the traditional idea about women’s role, especially as Egypt is due to host the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in November.
