Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, met on Friday with a delegation from the Brazilian Association of Tooling Industries (ABINFER) to discuss the transfer of technology and technical expertise in mould and die manufacturing to Egyptian factories.
The delegation was led by Christian Dihlmann, who also serves as Chairman of the International Special Tooling and Machining Association (ISTMA).
The meeting reviewed ABINFER’s efforts to advance Brazil’s mould and die industry through the adoption of modern technologies, the application of Japanese expertise, workforce training programmes and industry incentives.
Discussions also focused on transferring these capabilities to Egypt and establishing a specialised vocational school to train Egyptian technicians.
Hashem stressed that mould and die manufacturing is a key supporting industry under Egypt’s Industrial Strategy 2030 and plays a vital role in the engineering and manufacturing sectors. He said strengthening local capabilities in advanced mould design and production would help reduce imports, increase local content and added value, and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products in regional and international markets.
The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting cooperation with ABINFER and the relevant industry division to transfer Brazilian and Japanese expertise to Egypt. He also highlighted collaboration with the Productivity and Vocational Training Department to establish a specialised training centre aimed at developing skilled labour and supporting a strong and sustainable industrial base.
Hashem said Egypt is seeking to expand industrial production and exports, noting that local mould and die manufacturing would help meet manufacturers’ demand for critical production inputs, which currently rely heavily on imports. Expanding domestic production could also create export opportunities across the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
For his part, Dihlmann outlined Brazil’s experience in the sector, including the challenges it has faced and the initiatives introduced to improve productivity, workforce skills and investment.
He said ABINFER has helped equip numerous technical schools to provide specialisedmould-making training and emphasised that establishing a dedicated school in Egypt would accelerate technology transfer and skills development.
The delegation also visited the Productivity and Vocational Training Department and praised its training capabilities and facilities.
