Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met on Friday with UK Secretary of State David Lammy.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Quadripartite Ministerial Group (R4) meeting, which brings together the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, as well as a joint ministerial meeting between the R4 and the European E3 group comprising France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
The two ministers held in-depth discussions on regional security dynamics amid rising military escalations. They also reviewed ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore calm, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Nader Zaki said.
Minister Abdelatty emphasised the urgent need to prevent renewed military confrontations and break the current deadlock in US–Iran negotiations to pave the way for resuming dialogue and achieving a sustainable diplomatic settlement.
Both ministers agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation on de-escalation efforts, while voicing their strong condemnation and rejection of attacks targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and calling for an immediate cessation of such hostilities.
Regarding the Palestinian cause, Minister Abdelatty commended the positive trajectory of the British position, which culminated in the UK’s official recognition of the State of Palestine and the opening of its embassy in London.
