Egypt and the emirate of Sharjah are exploring co-operation on museums, heritage training and possible exhibitions of Egyptian antiquities.
Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy on Wednesday met Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, president of the Sharjah Museums Authority, during her visit to Egypt.
The talks covered training and exchanges of expertise, including the use of Egyptian experience in restoring antiquities and managing museums and archaeological sites.
Officials also discussed the possibility of holding temporary exhibitions of Egyptian artefacts in Sharjah, accompanied by workshops and cultural and professional events.
Al Qasimi highlighted the role of museum collections as resources for public learning and research, and said museums in Sharjah connect art and history with contemporary cultural practice and dialogue between cultures.
The sides agreed to exchange ideas on proposed areas of co-operation ahead of preparing a joint agreement setting out projects and how they would be carried out.
