Egypt plans to establish a national university theatre festival as an annual platform bringing together university theatre groups from across the country, under a joint project between the ministries of culture and higher education.
The proposal was discussed during an expanded meeting on Tuesday chaired by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and acting Minister of Culture Abdelaziz Konsowa to explore ways to develop university theater and support talented students.
The proposed festival would give university theatre groups an opportunity to compete and present their best productions, encouraging creativity and helping raise the standard of university theatre.
Konsowa stressed the importance of university theatre in discovering and developing young talents, noting that Egyptian universities are home to many creative students who need greater support and opportunities to showcase their abilities.
He said co-operation between the two ministries aims to establish an integrated system for discovering theatrical talents, providing the necessary support and connecting promising students with cultural and artistic institutions.
Konsowa called for a comprehensive plan outlining the festival’s structure and implementation mechanisms to ensure it provides a strong platform for university talents and supports the development of young artists.
