Tahya Misr (Long Live Egypt) Fund has stepped up its humanitarian support for the Palestinians in Gaza, dispatching 62 trucks loaded with 800 tonnes of food and essential supplies to help meet urgent needs amid the ongoing crisis.
The latest convoy brings together government efforts, civil society and private-sector contributions to deliver relief to affected families.
The noble efforts came in response to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to support the Palestinian people.
The convoy was announced at a press conference marking its launch, as part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in the Strip.
The convoy comprised 62 trucks bound for Gaza. He described the initiative as a key example of co-operation between the state, civil society, the private sector and business leaders, head of the fund’s projects sector, Hesham Khalifa, said in exclusive statements to The Egyptian Gazette.
Food and bakery support
Food accounts for around 90 per cent of the total aid, with supplies selected to meet the immediate needs of families in Gaza.
“The convoy includes dry food, canned goods and ready-to-cook meals suited to the harsh living conditions in the Strip, as well as dozens of tonnes of flour to help address the acute shortage of supplies at Gaza’s bakeries,” Khalifa added.
The shipment also includes winter clothing designed to withstand cold weather for children, men and women, along with baby nappies, healthcare supplies for newborns and personal care products.
More than 300 volunteers worked for three consecutive days to prepare and pack the aid, enabling the convoy to depart promptly.
Round-the-clock coordination
On logistical challenges and congestion involving trucks at border crossings, Khalifa said the fund operated in line with a unified, closely managed co-ordination system, working around the clock with all relevant state bodies.
The Egyptian Red Crescent and the Palestine Red Crescent Society co-ordinate directly to organise truck movements and prevent bottlenecks, while urgent needs are assessed continuously to help determine the contents of subsequent convoys.
A lasting commitment
The convoy reflects Egypt’s longstanding humanitarian role in supporting the Palestinian people. Since the crisis began in 2021, the fund has dispatched more than 1,580 trucks carrying over 24,000 tonnes of relief aid, Khalifa noted.
“We will continue to provide support and stand in solidarity with our brothers in the Gaza Strip, however long the crisis lasts and whatever challenges we face,” he told The Gazette.
