The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press statement on Tuesday welcoming the British government’s decision to ban trade in goods and certain services linked to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The statement described the move as an important step reflecting adherence to international law and UN resolutions, contributing to efforts against illegal settlement activity and attempts to impose new realities on the ground in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Egypt stressed that continued settlement expansion undermines the unity of Palestinian territories and the viability of establishing an independent Palestinian state. It reaffirmed that achieving just and comprehensive peace and ending the Israeli occupation requires the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The ministry also expressed support for the joint declaration by the foreign ministers of 12 countries on protecting the two‑state solution, which included calls for national measures restricting trade in goods from illegal settlements and demands for an immediate halt to settlement expansion and demolitions.
Egypt praised all international efforts aimed at translating opposition to settlements into practical measures and urged other members of the international community to take similar steps.
