Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, met on Monday with Programmes Director at the Italian Agency for Development Co-operation, Rita Petrelli, to review the latest developments in joint agricultural projects and initiatives between Egypt and Italy.
The meeting examined the implementation of projects carried out by the Italian Agency across several Egyptian governorates, with particular attention to progress on the ground and the effectiveness of initiatives aimed at supporting smallholder farmers and strengthening agricultural value chains.
The discussions also addressed potential logistical and field-level challenges facing ongoing initiatives, as well as measures to overcome these obstacles and ensure that technical and development support reaches its intended beneficiaries efficiently and contributes to sustainable improvements in agricultural production.
Particular emphasis was placed on the EU-KAFI project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Italian Agency for Development Co-operation.
Farouk was also briefed on the progress of activities aimed at promoting agricultural mechanisation, enhancing farmers’ productive capacity and improving the efficiency of agricultural operations.
The two sides discussed the project’s next phase and opportunities to expand its field activities.
Farouk praised the strong and longstanding co-operation between Egypt and Italy in the agricultural sector, highlighting the important contribution of the Italian Agency for Development Co-operation to transferring technical expertise, supporting capacity building and advancing priority development initiatives.
He stressed the importance of maintaining close co-ordination between the Ministry and the Italian side to maximise the impact of joint projects and ensure that development efforts effectively respond to the needs of Egyptian farmers.
Petrelli reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to continued co-operation with the various sectors of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
She underscored the agency’s readiness to provide the necessary technical and logistical support to strengthen the implementation of ongoing projects, improve their efficiency and help deliver their intended development outcomes.
