Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie met US Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman in Ismailia on Wednesday.
The two sides discussed ways to boost bilateral co-operation, particularly in shipyards, maritime services and digital transformation.
Rabie highlighted the canal’s strategic role in supporting global supply chains and facilitating trade between East and West, stressing its ability to maintain round-the-clock navigation despite regional geopolitical challenges.
He also outlined Egypt’s efforts to localise the maritime industry and develop the canal’s shipbuilding capabilities. Rabie noted that the ongoing development of the waterway, including the southern sector project, has increased navigational safety by 28 per cent.
Silverman praised the strong Egyptian-US relationship and co-operation with the SCA, describing the waterway as important to US interests and global trade between Europe and Asia.
He expressed interest in expanding co-operation into new areas.
Rabie later presented Silverman with the New Suez Canal Shield and invited him to tour the New Suez Canal and visit the Suez Canal Museum.
