SCZone, Oman explore industrial, logistics ties

Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone Mustafa Shaikhon reiterated on Sunday the SCZone’s keenness to enhance co-operation with Omani economic zones, exchange expertise and support investment opportunities and economic integration between Egypt and Oman.

Shaikhon made the remarks during his meeting at the authority’s headquarters in the New Capital with a high-level Omani delegation headed by Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) Qais bin Mohamed Al Yousef.

Electricity Min. directs unified meter fees, replacement of faulty meters

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr Mahmoud Esmat met on Sunday with heads of electricity distribution companies and their commercial sectors nationwide to review billing, verification and complaints-handling systems.

The step is in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives for close oversight of electricity billing and facilitating the settlement of outstanding balances, the ministry said in a statement.

Israeli strike on Gaza kills 2

An Israeli airstrike killed two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, in the central Gaza Strip on ‌Sunday, health officials said.

Gaza medics said the Israeli airstrike near a bakery in Deir Al-Balah killed one man, Hussam Nusair, a three-year-old boy, Tayyem Hamdan, and wounded several others.

Himalayan disaster death toll nears 800

At least 800 people have been killed and 3,048 others remain missing after a glacier collapsed in the Himalayas, sending water and debris tearing through several villages.

Nepal announced an updated death toll of 781 on Sunday, with 2,502 people missing, including 592 foreign nationals.

In China, state broadcaster CCTV reported 16 deaths and 546 people missing, including 261 foreigners.
