Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Mohamed Farid, said on Thursday that Egypt’s macroeconomic indicators remain stable despite current challenges, stressing the country’s commitment to deepening its investment partnership with Italy.
Minister Farid made the remarks during a meeting he called with the Italian Ambassador to Egypt, Agostino Balesi, to discuss increasing Italian investment flows, strengthening economic co-operation and supporting the expansion of Italian companies in the Egyptian market.
Alamein Univ. recognised as 1st Health-Promoting University in Egypt, Africa
Alamein International University has been recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the first Health-Promoting University in Egypt and Africa, marking a significant international achievement and reflecting Egypt’s efforts to integrate health, education, sustainability and human development.
The recognition was celebrated at the university on Thursday in the presence of Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture Abdel Aziz Konsowa.
Egyptian, US bid to advance investment, trade co-operation
Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid met on Thursday with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for the Middle East and Africa, Mark Mitchell, and a delegation from the US Embassy in Cairo to strengthen economic and investment co-operation and explore opportunities to expand US investment in Egypt.
The embassy delegation was headed by Commercial Counselor Paul Oliva.
As the meeting started, Minister Farid reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to removing obstacles facing US investors, improving the investment climate, streamlining procedures and converting available opportunities into viable projects.
Petrojet secures $22.7m natural gas project in Jordan
The state-run Petrojet Company has secured a $22.7 million contract to supply natural gas to the Al-Muwaqqar Industrial Development Zone, south of Amman, Jordan.
The step is in line with the directives of the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, to support the regional expansion of Egyptian petroleum sector companies.
The project, the Petroleum Ministry said in a statement, marks a new milestone in the growing regional presence of Egyptian petroleum sector companies and their ability to compete for and deliver major energy and infrastructure projects in international markets.
Algeria declares mourning over wildfire deaths
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Thursday declared a three-day national mourning after wildfires in the northeast killed at least 12 people and injured dozens.
Tebboune in a statement described the deaths as “a great tragedy” while authorities have not updated a death toll of 12 people from Wednesday.
Five people died in Jijel province, four in Bejaia and three in Tizi Ouzou, Interior Minister Said Sayoud said on Wednesday, adding that 54 were being treated in hospital for burns, including six in serious condition.
