Minister of State for Military Production Salah Soliman Gomblat met Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk and Executive Director of Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development Bahaa El-Ghannam to discuss cooperation on national projects and food security.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Military Production’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital on Wednesday, focused on making greater use of national manufacturing capabilities to improve services and support development.

Gomblat said the ministry has an industrial and technological base comprising around 260 production lines, accredited laboratories, advanced equipment and qualified personnel. Its capabilities include manufacturing automated and semi-automated bakeries, supplying and installing water and submersible pumps, and producing and installing power generators.

He said the ministry also seeks to use surplus production capacity to support priority national projects and expand civilian production, helping deepen local manufacturing, increase added value and reduce reliance on imports.

Farouk said discussions covered upgrading bread production lines, developing the subsidised ration card system and expanding grain storage capacity through main and field silos.

The meeting also addressed establishing a plant to produce bleaching earth used in oil purification, with the aim of localising supplies for the edible oil industry.

El-Ghannam stressed the authority’s commitment to increasing reliance on locally manufactured products and components.

Cooperation will also cover irrigation equipment, spare parts, maintenance, solar panels and projects using agricultural waste.

The three sides agreed to expand cooperation and turn the discussed proposals into implementation programmes with clear timelines.
