President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday stressed that achieving self-sufficiency in strategic commodities, maintaining secure long-term reserves, boosting partnerships with the private sector and ensuring subsidies reach those most in need, remain state top national priorities.

The president made the remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, Head of the Administrative Control Authority Major General Amr Adel and Executive Director of the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority Colonel Bahaa el-Ghannam.

The meeting reviewed the state’s food security and social protection systems, according to Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy.

Discussions covered the food security system, including the production and distribution of strategic commodities and the availability of strategic reserves in light of current regional developments, El-Shennawy said.

The meeting confirmed that stocks of essential commodities remain at reassuring levels, with reserves sufficient to meet domestic demand for extended periods, approaching one year for some commodities.

The meeting also reviewed the objectives and technological infrastructure of the Future of Egypt silos complex, which aims to strengthen national food security by expanding storage capacity and maintaining strategic reserves capable of addressing emergencies.

Sisi also followed up the social protection system and investments in the Takaful and Karama Fund, reiterating the need to continue prioritising support for the poorest households, the spokesman said.

Discussions also covered the proposed in-kind and cash support programme, highlighting its role in promoting social justice while enabling beneficiaries to choose the form of support that best meets their needs.

The meeting further addressed developments in the ration-card and subsidised-bread systems.

Minister Farouk outlined measures to ensure subsidies reach eligible beneficiaries and reviewed progress in establishing 300 strategic bakeries nationwide as a first phase, alongside the performance of the Food Safety Authority in safeguarding the quality of food products.

Sisi directed continued efforts to further boost food security, regulate markets, stabilise prices and further develop the subsidy system to ensure effective support for the most vulnerable groups.
