President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Sunday reviewed key transport and port projects during a meeting in Alamein with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir and Presidential Adviser for Urban Planning Amir Sayed Ahmed.

During the meeting, which reviewed progress on the development of Safaga Grand Port, Damietta Port, Alexandria Grand Port and Sokhna Port, President Sisi instructed officials to adhere to set timelines and the highest quality standards, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said.

Discussions also covered efforts to modernise transport systems to support trade flows, enhance maritime and land connectivity, and facilitate the movement of people and goods, reinforcing Egypt’s role as a regional trade hub.

The meeting also reviewed updates on the high-speed electric rail network, with trial operations of the first line, linking Ain Sokhna, Alamein and Matrouh, scheduled to begin in September 2026 and continue for six months. The economic benefits of the second and third lines were also outlined, including linking new agricultural zones to consumption centres and export ports, and connecting tourist areas, El-Shennawy added.

Participants further discussed progress on the East and West Nile monorail projects and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system on the Cairo Ring Road.

President Sisi stressed the importance of accelerating sustainable green mass transit projects as a foundation for urban, industrial and tourism development.

The meeting also examined road and bridge maintenance, including the Western Desert Highway and the Aswan-Bernice dual carriageway linking Upper Egypt to the Red Sea, as well as plans to ease congestion on October Bridge through comprehensive refurbishment.

President Sisi stressed the need to complete all projects within their scheduled timelines and to the highest standards, El-Shennawy noted.
