A rumour can race across social media long before an official correction catches up. Egypt’s new Chat EGYPT platform is designed to narrow that gap, using artificial intelligence to help identify misleading claims and direct users to verified information.
Launched during the Egypt Forum 2026, the platform analyses text, images and video, looking for signs of manipulation and checking material against its wider context. Its aim, the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre says, is to spot false information early and make accurate updates available before rumours spread further.
Chat EGYPT brings together four sections, news, public awareness, statistics and citizen inquiries, combining official updates with material intended to help people recognise the risks of misinformation.
The centre says more than 21,000 data items have already been added, alongside daily statements by officials carried in the media. Ministries, government agencies and governorates can also upload verified information in a decentralised system, allowing each institution to provide updates within its remit.
The platform’s effectiveness will depend not only on its ability to flag misleading content, but also on how quickly clear, trustworthy information reaches the public. For now, it offers citizens a single place to check claims against material supplied by official sources.
