Seven hospitals affiliated with the Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA) have, for the first time in a single evaluation cycle, achieved the Diamond rating, the highest distinction awarded under the ESO/WSO Angels Awards programme for stroke care, marking a new international milestone for the authority.
The hospitals attained the Diamond rating after successfully progressing through the Gold and Platinum levels under the programme’s rigorous international evaluation system, which measures clinical performance, response times, adherence to treatment protocols and the quality of stroke care, EHA Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky said.
He described the achievement as a clear evidence that the authority’s facilities have reached the highest international standards and are capable of competing on global quality indicators.
The implementation of the Stroke Code has significantly strengthened emergency preparedness and enabled rapid intervention through standardised treatment pathways, reducing the average “door-to-needle” time for clot-dissolving treatment to 44 minutes, in line with international best practice, El-Sobky added.
He noted that the system has helped improve recovery rates while reducing disability and complications.
The hospitals awarded the Diamond rating are Al-Salam Hospital in Port Said, Taiba Specialised Hospital, Ismailia Medical Complex, Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, Suez Medical Complex, Karnak International Hospital and Horus Specialised Hospital in Luxor.
El-Sobky lauded the efforts of medical, nursing, administrative and quality teams, together with Stroke Code coordinators, describing the recognition as the result of teamwork, clinical governance and a culture of continuous improvement.
He reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to expanding the Stroke Code across its facilities, strengthening the readiness of emergency, radiology, laboratory and neurology departments, and continuously updating treatment pathways in line with the latest international clinical evidence to improve patient outcomes under the Universal Health Insurance System.
The ESO/WSO Angels Awards, organised by the European Stroke Organisation, the World Stroke Organisation and the Angels Initiative, recognise hospitals achieving the highest international standards in stroke care through Gold, Platinum and Diamond classifications.
