The Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) and the Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique (IACM) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on technical co-operation, on the sidelines of AFI Aviation Week 2026. The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh el-Hefny and Mozambique’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics, Chinguane Mabote.

The agreement marks a significant step towards boosting Egypt’s civil aviation partnerships across Africa and advancing regional integration in the sector.

Under the MoU, the two civil aviation authorities will enhance technical co-operation to support the implementation of the standards and recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The partnership also covers collaboration in air navigation, airport operations, aviation safety and security, sustainable development, as well as joint training programmes, capacity-building initiatives, technical exchange visits, and specialised workshops.

El-Hefny said the agreement reflects Egypt’s political leadership’s commitment to deepening co-operation with African nations and fostering regional integration through the exchange of expertise and capacity building.

He added that the MoU underscores the growing confidence in Egypt’s expertise in civil aviation and reflects the ministry’s determination to capitalise on the country’s hosting of AFI Aviation Week 2026 to expand co-operation with African partners, support the development of Africa’s air transport industry, and reinforce Egypt’s position as a leading regional hub for civil aviation.
