Civil Aviation Minister Samah El-Hefny met ICAO Secretary-General Juan Carlos Salazar on the sidelines of Africa and Indian Ocean Aviation Week in Cairo to discuss Africa’s civil aviation roadmap and preparations for ICAO’s 7th Worldwide Air Transport Conference and extraordinary General Assembly in Montreal this November. The talks focused on capacity building, policy coordination and supporting ICAO programmes across Africa.
El-Hefny reaffirmed Egypt’s active role within ICAO, stressing collective action to meet global aviation challenges. Salazar praised Egypt’s hosting of AFI Week and its support for ICAO’s regional initiatives.
Separately, El-Hefny witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Egypt’s Civil Aviation Authority and the Arab Civil Aviation Organization. The agreement, signed by Authority Chairman Samah Mohamed Fawzi and ACAO Director-General Khalid El-Sharqawi, aims to strengthen cooperation in information exchange, joint promotion and media coordination.
El-Hefny said the MoU reflects Egypt’s commitment to enhancing Arab civil aviation cooperation, spreading awareness of sector achievements and building a more advanced and efficient aviation system aligned with sustainable development goals.
