Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel Aaty met on Wednesday with President of the Austrian Parliament Walter Rosenkranz during his official visit to Vienna.

Minister Abdel Aaty emphasised Egypt’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation with Austria, highlighting the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in deepening ties between peoples and advancing bilateral relations. He welcomed Austria’s formation of a parliamentary friendship group with North African countries, including Egypt, and expressed hope for establishing a dedicated friendship group with Egypt to reflect the strong bilateral ties.

The minister underscored the need for intensified parliamentary exchanges to broaden cooperation and share perspectives on common issues, including migration. He outlined Egypt’s success in preventing irregular migration from its coasts and the economic burden of hosting millions of refugees, calling for burden-sharing and comprehensive approaches to address the root causes of this problem. He also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in education, culture, academic exchange, renewable energy, green hydrogen, and ICT.

Talks also covered counterterrorism, with Minister Abdel Aatypresenting Egypt’s holistic approach that integrates security, intellectual, and developmental dimensions to tackle extremism. The two sides reviewed regional developments, including Egypt’s efforts to restore stability, de-escalate tensions, and resume U.S.–Iran negotiations. On Gaza, he reiterated Egypt’s position on the importance of implementing the first phase of the U.S. President’s plan to ensure unfettered access of humanitarian aid access and making the preparations for subsequent stages.
