Egypt has stepped up its international co-operation on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2026 in Geneva.

The Egyptian Communications and Information Technology Minister, Raafat Hindi, led a series of high-level meetings at the summit, securing several key partnerships aimed at expanding Egypt’s digital footprint and establishing a unified African tech framework.

A central highlight of the summit was the signing of a bilateral co-operation agreement between Egypt and Rwanda. The pact aims to strengthen collaboration on AI and digital transformation through several targeted initiatives, including deploying tech solutions in healthcare, agriculture, and government services, developing AI tools tailored to regional African languages and promoting a shared African approach to responsible and ethical AI regulation.

Minister Hindi also held talks with Sudan’s Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications. The discussions focused on upgrading regional digital infrastructure, building AI capacity, and bolstering cybersecurity protocols.

Turning to global governance, Hindi met with the UN Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies, Amandeep Singh Gill. The pair discussed international AI frameworks and explored strategies to ensure developing countries have a stronger voice in shaping global technology policies.

The minister also met officials from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and TikTok to discuss internet governance, multilingual domain names, child online protection and expanding STEM-related digital content.
