Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindi held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2026 in Geneva, where Egypt is serving as chair.

During a meeting with Minister of Communications of the Republic of Iraq Mustafa Jabbar Sanad, the two sides discussed enhancing co-operation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, digital capacity building and international telecommunications infrastructure.

They also explored ways to strengthen coordination in international communications and information technology forums.

The meeting also reviewed the existing framework of co-operation between the two countries, including memoranda of understanding covering digital transformation, artificial intelligence, digital skills development, innovation, entrepreneurship, telecommunications infrastructure and postal services.

Minister Hindi also met with Minister of Posts and Telecommunications of the Kingdom of Cambodia Chea Vandeth, in the presence of Permanent Representative of Egypt to Geneva Ambassador Alaa Hegazy.

Discussions focused on expanding co-operation in cybersecurity, data protection, artificial intelligence, digital capacity building and digital financial services.

The two ministers explored opportunities to develop modern regulatory frameworks through the exchange of expertise, strengthening national cybersecurity capabilities, establishing joint artificial intelligence research centres, launching expertise exchange programmes, promoting the responsible use of AI technologies and supporting financial inclusion through digital financial services.

In a separate meeting, Minister Hindi met with Director-General of the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology at the European Commission Roberto Viola.

The discussions focused on enhancing co-operation in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, digital transformation, personal data protection, international digital infrastructure, research and innovation.

The meeting also explored collaboration in building digital capabilities in artificial intelligence, supporting the adoption of advanced technologies by small and medium-sized enterprises, promoting the responsible use of AI applications, and implementing joint projects in quantum computing.
