Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Tuesday with Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, to discuss ways to strengthen African cooperation and coordinate positions on issues of common concern.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the AU Commission in advancing continental integration, peace, security, and development. He stressed Egypt’s commitment to close coordination with the Commission across political, economic, and health matters, reflecting Cairo’s dedication to backing AU institutions. He highlighted Egypt’s role in supporting post-conflict reconstruction and development, in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and continental issues, particularly developments in Sudan, Somalia, and the Horn of Africa. Abdelatty emphasized support for national institutions, the unity and sovereignty of states, and rejection of unilateral actions that could undermine stability.
For his part, the AU Commission Chair expressed appreciation for Egypt’s important role within the Union and its efforts to defend African interests. He confirmed the Commission’s commitment to continued consultation and coordination with Egypt to promote peace, security, and development across the continent.
