Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, affirmed on Monday that Egypt possesses extensive expertise in food security management and the development of grain storage infrastructure.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening co-operation with African countries and sharing successful experiences to support sustainable development and enhance economic integration across the continent.

The minister received Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to Egypt, Dan Munyoza, to discuss opportunities for co-operation and the exchange of expertise in food security, grain storage, and strategic reserve management.

During the meeting, Minister Farouk reviewed Egypt’s experience in modernising its grain silo network, highlighting the significant expansion of storage capacities, improved strategic reserve management, reduced losses, and enhanced grain quality.

He also outlined the mechanisms governing wheat procurement and the management of strategic reserves of essential commodities, which contribute to market stability and ensure the availability of key goods.

Discussions focused on Egypt’s efforts to strengthen food security infrastructure and the role of advanced silo systems in supporting supply chains, improving storage efficiency, and minimising post-harvest losses.

The two sides also explored opportunities for technical co-operation in the establishment, operation, and management of modern silos, as well as training, capacity building, and knowledge transfer programmes for specialists in relevant sectors.

The Rwandan side expressed interest in benefiting from Egypt’s expertise in the design, construction, and operation of grain storage facilities to support Rwanda’s efforts to enhance food security and develop its agricultural infrastructure.

For his part, Ambassador Munyoza praised Egypt’s achievements in developing its silo network and managing strategic reserves.

He reaffirmed Rwanda’s interest in expanding co-operation in grain management, strategic storage, silo construction, and institutional capacity building.
